History of the settlement
The settlement of Pigadoulia[5] is a relatively new settlement, which was annexed in 1991,[6] to the Community of Agaliani, where it remained from 1991 to 1997, when then, within the framework of the changes that occurred in the local government, through the "Kapodistrias" plan,[7] Pigadoulia was incorporated into the abolished Municipality of Avlonas Messinia,[8] until 2010. Since 2011, after the new changes of the "Kallikratis" plan, Pigadoulia now belongs to the new Municipality of Trifylia.[9][10] This municipality was established with the Kallikratis Program by merging the pre-existing municipalities of Aetos, Avlonas, Gargaliana, Kyparissia, Filiatra and the community of Tripyla. Pigadoulia today is a settlement of the Local Community of Agaliani of the Municipality of Trifylia,[4] with its headquarters in Agaliani and which also includes the settlements of Vlassada, Xyfara and Paliovlassada.
