Pialeia (Πιάλεια) Trikala

Pialeia is a settlement in the Municipality of Pyli in the Trikala Regional Unit.[1][2]

General information

Pialea is located on the outskirts of Koziakas at an altitude of 260 meters[3]. It is characterized by its towering plane trees, which accompany the river that crosses it throughout its route. The village is only 8 kilometers from the city of Pyli, from which its residents are also served. On the PalIokastro hill between Pialeia and Xyloparoiko, at an altitude of approximately 400 meters, ancient Pialeia was built[4].

Personalities

Vasilios Tsiavaliaris[5] from Pialeia in the Municipality of Pyli was, according to testimonies and all the evidence of the time, the first to fall in the Greco-Italian War of 1940.

Administrative information

It is officially mentioned, after the Turkish occupation, as Karvounolepenitsa in 1883 to be designated as the seat of the then municipality of Pialeia (until 1886) while in 1915 it was renamed Pialeia.[2] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Neraida, it constitutes the homonymous community that falls under the municipal unit of Pialeia in the Municipality of Pyli and according to the 2021 census it has 640 residents[6] while according to the 2011 census it was 755[7].
