Pefkofyto (Πευκόφυτον) Karditsa

Pefkofyto[2] or Nevrovounisia[3] is a settlement in Thessaly and the Regional Unit of Karditsa. Pefkofyto is bordered to the east by the community of Kriopigi, to the south by the community of Anthochori, to the west by the communities of Oxia and Drakotrypa, and to the north by the community of Porti.[4]

Geographical information

Pefkofyto is located on the northern slopes of Mount Kazarma in Northern Agrafa,[2] at an altitude of 730 meters in an area with many waters (4 torrents and 4 springs) and forests (pines, firs, oaks, chestnuts)[3]. It is approximately 36 km W. from Karditsa and 11 km SW. from Mouzaki (seat of the municipality).

Administrative - Population data

It is officially mentioned, after the integration of Thessaly, with its old name Nevrovounista, in 1833 in the Government Gazette 126A-02/04/1883 as being annexed to the then municipality of Gomfon. In 1912 with the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912 it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name and in 1940 its name was corrected to Nevrounista. In 1957 with the Government Gazette 119A - 03/07/1957 it was renamed Pefkofyton.[5] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Padi, the Islands and Haravgi constitute the community of Pefkofytou[6] which falls under the municipal unit of Mouzaki of the Municipality of Mouzaki, while according to the 2011 census, 120 residents were registered.[7] The population censuses after World War II are:
