Paraskevi (Παρασκευή) Grevena

Paraskevi is a mountain village in the prefecture of Grevena at an altitude of 780 meters and belongs to the municipal unit of Deskati. [1]

Geography - History

Friday is located at the southeastern tip of the prefecture, on the southern slopes of Mount Vounassa (1,415m) in Camvounia. To the south of the village passes EO Elassona - Deskatis and is 5 km D.-ND. from Deskati. [1] Its inhabitants are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. [2]

The original location of the village, in the 5th c. BC, it was further south of today, in the place "Klima" and it was called Kastri. During the Byzantine period (before 1393) it was in the place "Vaini" or "Paleochori", where ruins are still preserved. [3] He was released by the Turks on 7/10/1912. In general, the history of the village, like the other villages in the area, has been linked to Deskati. [4]

The church of St. John Chrysostom, which is a three-aisled basilica and dates back to the 19th century, has been designated since 1992 as a building that needs special state protection.

From Paraskevi is the journalist, publisher and businessman Ioannis Vellidis (original surname of Vellis).

Administratively

As a settlement, it is officially mentioned in 1918 in the Government Gazette 260A-31/12/1918 that the seat of the homonymous community that then belonged to the prefecture of Kozani was defined. In 1943 he was seconded to the prefecture of Larissa and in 1964 to the prefecture of Grevena. According to the Kallikratis plan, it is the local community of Paraskevi that belongs to the municipal unit of Deskatis of the Municipality of Deskatis and according to the 2011 census it has 108 permanent residents. [7]
