Paralia Kato Achaias (Παραλία Κάτω Αχαΐας) Achaia

Paralia Kato Achaias is a small lowland coastal settlement in the Prefecture of Achaia, part of the Municipal Community of Kato Achaia, which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Dymi of the Municipality of Western Achaia[2][3]. During the period 1997-2010 and before the administrative reform based on the "Kallikratis Plan", according to the "Kapodistria Plan", it belonged to the former Municipality of Dymi as part of the former Municipal District of Kato Achaia[2][3][4][5].

It is surrounded, in addition to the town of Kato Achaia, by the coastal settlements of Alykes and Gialos Alissou. A well-known adjacent place name of the area is Bouka.[6] The location "Bouka" extends west of the mouth of the Peiros River and to the west it adjoins the location Agia Paraskevi[7] of the settlement of Paralia Kato Achaia. The name Limni is probably related to the lake of "Mahairou". This lake no longer exists, as it was filled in in 1990 with the materials of the demolition of the buildings that covered the shore in the adjacent Agia Paraskevi. In Bouka there has been a settlement of summer houses since the 1970s.[6] In 2011, following an initiative by residents, the coastal road was moved a few meters away from the sea, in order to maintain both access to the settlement and connectivity with the rural roads that lead from the beach to the old Patras-Pyrgos national road.

The area is served since February 29, 2020 by Line 2 of the Patras Suburban Railway via the nearby terminal station "Kato Achaia".

General information

This is a relatively new settlement and was recognized as such on 19/03/1961[2]. It was created by residents of Kato Achaia who were mainly involved in fishing[6]. Today the area is a busy beach in the wider area and Achaia in general, while there are also dining and recreation areas.
Demographic evolution

Overall, the demographic evolution of the settlement according to the national censuses[8][9] is as follows:
1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011 2021
57[5] 17[5] 5[5] 45[5] 80[5][10] 91[11] 49[12]
