Palatitsia (Παλατίτσια) Imathia

Palatitsia is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[1]

Geographical - historical information

Palatitsia is located approximately 21 km southeast of Veria (the seat of the municipality), next to and east of Vergina.[2] The Aliakmonas River passes to the northwest of the village, while Meliki is to the northeast and Sykia to the southeast. To the west and between neighboring Vergina is the archaeological site of Vergina (Aigai).[3] The parish church is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary[4] while the cemetery of Agios Dimitrios at its southwestern edge is considered very important. It is a Byzantine church located on the boundaries of the archaeological site and dates back to the 16th century. It is made with architectural elements from the palace of Philip II in Aigai.[5]

Administrative - population data

They are officially mentioned, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 in the Government Gazette 152A - 09/07/1918, as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[6] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, they constitute the community of Palatitsia[7] which falls under the Municipal Unit of Vergina of the Municipality of Veria, while according to the 2011 census, 834 residents were registered.[8] The population censuses after World War II are:
