Palaiomylos (Παλαιόμυλος) Aitoloakarnania
Palaiomylos is a lowland village of Etoloakarnania in the area of Thermos at an altitude of 40 meters [1] [2].
Geography - Sights
Palaiomylos is located next to and northeast of Lake Trichonida, between the villages of Myrtia (Myrtea), Loutra and Perevo. It is 21 km A.-NA. from Agrinio, 54 km NW. from Nafpaktos (via Bania bridge) and 11 km W. from Thermo [3]. Sights of the area are the chapel of Agia Eleousa, which is to the west of the village with a very nice view of the plain of Myrtia and Trichonida. Inside the rock there are two small caves that create a kind of two-aisled double-aisled church, which is interesting for its shape, its remarkable frescoes (some of which date back to the first half of the 15th century), an inscription and a small pleated capital [4] . The old watermill "Konstantopoulou" with the adjacent waterfall, a little lower than the chapel of Agia Eleousa, is also interesting. [5]
Administratively
It was recognized as a settlement in 1928 and annexed to the then community of Myrtia [6]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Myrtia, Perevo and Loutra, they constitute the local Community of Myrtea that belongs to the municipality of Thermos and according to the 2011 census has a population of 287 permanent residents [7].
