Nessonas (Νέσσων ) Larissa
Nessonas (or Nesson) is a settlement in Thessaly in the Regional Unit of Larissa.[1][2]
General information
Nessonas is located approximately 16 km northeast of Larissa, at an altitude of 95 meters.[3] Near and south of the village is the anciently known lake Nessonis (the so-called Mavrolimni or Karatsair) and the ancient city of Nesson, from which the former Municipality of the area took its name. Nesson was the son of Thessalus, hence the name of Thessaly as Nessonis.[4]
It is officially mentioned, after the unification of Thessaly, with its old name from the Turkish rule as Tzami (due to the existence of a mosque) in 1883 in Government Gazette 126A - 02/04/1883 to be annexed to the then municipality of Nessonos. In 1924 with Government Gazette 271A - 30/10/1924 it was designated the seat of the newly founded community of the same name and in 1932 with Government Gazette 421A - 02/12/1932 it was renamed Nesson.[5] According to the Kallikratis program, together with Korakas, they constitute the homonymous community that falls under the Municipal Unit of Nessonos of the Municipality of Tempi and according to the 2011 census it has 94 residents.[6] The de facto population censuses after World War II are:
Census 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011
Population 300[7] 304[8] 232[9] 189[10] 168[11] 153[12] 94
