Neochori (Νεοχώρι) Imathia

Neochori is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[2][3]

Geographical - Historical data

Neochori is located near the border with the Regional Unit of Pella, in the Giannitsa plain at an altitude of 11 meters.[2] It is approximately 5 km. N. from Alexandria (seat of the municipality), 20 km. S. from Giannitsa and 54 km. W. from Thessaloniki (via Egnatia Highway) while the provincial road of Alexandreia - Giannitsa passes west of the village. During the Turkish occupation, it was referred to as Nichori and was located to the east of the lake-marsh of Giannitsa, which was drained in 1932-1936, while historically it is included in the villages of the Roumlouki region.[4]

Administrative - Population data

It is officially reported, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 to have been annexed to the then community of Gida. In 1966, with the Government Gazette 91A - 26/04/1966, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Kleisthenes I, it constitutes the community of Neochori[5] which falls under the Municipal Unit of Alexandreia of the Municipality of Alexandreia, while according to the 2011 census, 536 residents were registered.[6]
