Myrrini (Μυρρίνη) Serres
Myrrini or Myrini is a lowland village of the Serres Regional Unit with an altitude of 90 meters[2].
Geography - History
Myrrini is located on the southern edges of the Serres plain and south of the Aggitis River that ends in the Strymonas. It is 11 km. SE. from Nea Zichni and 39 km. SE. from Serres. The old name of the village is Kotsaki and so it is mentioned in 1920 in the Official Gazette 2A - 04/01/1920 to be designated the seat of the homonymous community. In 1927 with Official Gazette 7A - 14/01/1927 it was renamed Myrrini[3] which is likely to come from a linguistic corruption of the plant myrcene or otherwise myrtle, which is abundant in the area. During the Ottoman period, there were two neighboring settlements, Koltsaki and Kotsaki, which were estates of Fitas Bey and were merged after 1821. It was destroyed by the Bulgarians in the year 1913, another attacked followed three years later. In 1925 it was renamed to Myrrini According to the Kallikratis plan, it constitutes the Local Community of Myrrini, which falls under the Municipal Unit of Nea Zichni of the Municipality of Nea Zichni and according to the 2011 census, has a population of 236 residents[4].
