Administrative Region : Thessaly
Regional unit : Karditsa
Mouzaki (Μουζάκι) Karditsa
Mouzaki is a town and the seat of the homonymous municipality in Thessaly and the Regional Unit of Karditsa.[1][2][3]
Geography
Mouzaki is located on the northwestern edge of the Karditsa plain and the slopes of Mount Itamos at an altitude of 180 meters.[1] It is crossed by the Pamisos stream, which ends in the Pinios River. Its inhabitants are engaged in livestock farming, agriculture, trade or work in public services.
Its geographical position makes it a local commercial and administrative center. It is a crossroads and communication hub of the Karditsa Prefecture with Argithea, Epirus and the Prefecture of Trikala.
History
The history of the area is centuries-old, as evidenced by various archaeological finds. Two kilometers northwest of Mouzaki, at the location "Episkopi", is the ancient city of Gomfi, which controlled the entrances to ancient Amvrakia, present-day Arta, and the country of the Athamanes (Argithea region). According to archaeological evidence, the city was founded in the 4th century BC, minted its first coin around 340 BC and had a strong defensive wall. In 198 BC it was captured by Amynander, later by Philip V of Macedon and in 48 BC by Julius Caesar, whose army plundered it. In the 6th century, the wall that surrounded it was renovated by Justinian and during the Byzantine era it became the seat of a Bishop, which was maintained until the period of Turkish rule.[4]
In 1943, Mouzaki was burned down by the Italians and for this reason its houses are newly built, with few surviving examples of traditional architecture.

Road connection
It is a point of reference for every resident, given that it is 50 kilometers from Anthiro, the seat of the Municipality of Argithea, 75 kilometers from Vragkiana, the seat of the Municipality of Acheloos, and 34 kilometers from Petrilo, the seat of the Community of East Argithea.
It is 28 kilometers from Karditsa. It is connected by two provincial roads to the city of Trikala, from which it is 20 kilometers away, and to Arta, from which it is approximately 180 kilometers away.
Two roads start from Mouzaki, cross the difficult area of Argithea and end in the villages of the Municipality of Acheloos and the Prefecture of Arta: one crosses Eastern Argithea and the second connects Thessaly with Epirus. This road is constantly being improved and is a road choice for many visitors to the Prefecture of Karditsa, when weather conditions permit. The roads Kalambaka–Trikala–Mouzaki–Lake Plastiras and Pertouli–Pyli–Mouzaki–Lake Plastiras are used by a large number of visitors interested in ecotourism.
