Mouriki (Μουρίκι) Achaia

Mouriki is a small mountainous village located in the hinterland of the Prefecture of Achaia. It falls administratively under the Local Community of Profitis Ilias of the Municipality of Kalavryta. At the 2011 census, Mouriki had a permanent population of 36 residents[1][2]. The village's parish church is dedicated to the Beheading of the Immaculate Head of Saint John the Baptist[3].

It is 46.5 kilometers by road from the center of Patras, 34.5 kilometers from the seat of the Municipality of Kalavryta and 10 kilometers from the seat of the Local Community of Profitis Ilias (6.5 kilometers via a route with part of a dirt road).

History

Mouriki is mentioned in the Venetian census of Francesco Grimani of 1700 as "Murichi" with 77 residents. It is also mentioned in the scientific research of the French mission of General Maisons in 1829 with 34 families[4]. At the beginning of the 20th century, its inhabitants were illiterate and engaged in agriculture and livestock farming[3].

Administrative changes

On April 20, 1835, Mouriki was annexed to the Municipality of Vlassia. On July 1, 1841, it was annexed together with the entire Municipality of Vlassia to the Municipality of Lapathos. On August 28, 1912, with the establishment of the Communities, the village was annexed to the Community of Gerbesi, which would be renamed together with its homonymous seat to the Community of Prophet Elias. On December 4, 1997, with the return of the Municipalities to self-government according to the "Kapodistrias Plan", Mouriki was incorporated into the Municipality of Kalavryta[5][6].
