Monastiraki (Μοναστηράκι) Kavala
Monastiraki is a village in the Municipality of Nestos, Kavala, in the region of East Macedonia and Thrace. According to the 2011 census, it has 238 inhabitants. It is located at an altitude of 15 meters. It is 42 kilometers from Kavala and is the closest village to the Nestos Delta. With the Kapodistrias program until 2010, Monastiraki belonged to the Local Department of Keramoti, of the former Municipality of Keramoti.[2] The local community of Keramoti also includes the settlements of Keramoti and Chaidefto.
Population changes
We had significant population changes in our region after 1922, as, as can be seen from the table in question, in 1915, the only change that took place was in the villages of Organzilar (Frysochori) and Resit Bey (Monastiraki), in which 303 and 194, respectively, refugees from Eastern Thrace settled
Events
The village festival on August 15 stands out as the largest in the entire region.
Also notable is the "Artistic Evening" an original event for the region organized by the Monastiraki Culture & Environment Association "The Assumption of the Virgin Mary" and takes place on an evening during the summer season.
The festival of Agia Marina, which is celebrated on July 17.
The celebration of "Bambos" is a custom that most families in Thrace still observe today, since it is not only valuable because of tradition, but it is also a delicious food.
