The village is located west of the Agrafiotis River and in an area surrounded by high mountains. It is 57 km northwest of Karpenisi and 13 km southwest of Agrafa[3]. The most important historical attraction is the "Katsantonis Cave", about an hour from the village, on a hidden slope of the Pyrgos peak where Katsantonis had taken refuge while sick with smallpox. At the end of August 1809, after betrayal, Mouhourdaris, leader of the Turko-Albanians of Ali Pasha, besieged him and finally captured him and led him to Ioannina where he had horrible death[4].

Above the Monastirakiotis stream is the "Psilo Gefyri", a stone single-arch bridge which is currently covered with cement and rests on the cliffs of the ravine[5]. In the village there are several important churches, such as Panagia, Agios Dimitrios, Profitis Elias and Agios Georgios in the "Castle", where there are faint remains of an ancient castle, which is believed to have belonged to the ancient Agraeans (a related tribe of the Dolopi).
