Mikrochori is a lowland village of Thrace in the Regional Unit of Xanthi.[2]
Geography - History
Mikrochori is located on the border with the Regional Unit of Kavala at an altitude of 6 meters[3], in the plain of Xanthi, at a distance of 24 km. SW. from the city and about 2 km. SW. from Evlalo (seat of the municipality). West of the village passes the Nestos River and to the south is the Delta of the river while it itself is built very close and next to the settlements of Kyrno (NW.), Evlalo (NE.), Avato (SE.) and Iliokentima (S.). It was officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1940, being annexed to the then community of Evlalo.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, it belongs to the municipal community of Evlalo, which falls under the Municipality of Topeiros, and according to the 2011 census, it has a population of 264 residents.[5]
