Mikri Doxipara (Μικρά Δοξιπάρα) Evros
Mikri Doxipara is a semi-mountainous village of the Evros regional unit at an altitude of 180 meters[2].
Geographical - historical data
Mikri Doxipara is located in northern Evros, towards the border with the border line of Greece with Bulgaria and is 27.5 km. west of Orestiada. In a location, southwest of the village and between the villages of Zoni (SW) and Chelidona (S), there is a tumulus - a mound with a diameter of 60 meters and a height of 7.5 that was gradually constructed, at the beginning of the 2nd century. on a natural hill, so that the mound would be visible from afar and was located on the road that connected Adrianople with Philippopolis. In it, after cremation, four members of a wealthy landowner family were buried, along with their gifts, five carriages that transported them to the tomb area, their pack animals and five more horses[3]. Since 2011, the area has been declared an archaeological site under the name of the Tomb of Mikri Doxipara - Zoni[4].
Administrative - population data
It is officially mentioned as a settlement in 1924 in the Government Gazette 194A-14/08/1924, annexed to the then community of Zoni[5]. According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Zoni and Chelidona, it forms the local community of Zoni, which belongs to the municipal unit of Kyprinos in the municipality of Orestiada and, according to the 2011 census, has a population of 209 inhabitants[6].
