Meliana (Μελιανά) Preveza

Meliana is a mountain village in the prefecture of Preveza and belongs to the villages of Lakka Souli. It is built at an altitude of 560m. in the western foothills of Xirovouni. It is located on the border of the prefecture of Ioannina and 60 km. NE of Preveza. On the right the village borders with Derviziana Ioannina while on the left with the village Papadates of the prefecture of Preveza. According to one version, Meliana may owe its name to the large Mela family, which originates from here. According to another version, he owes it to the honey tree (fraxos), which grows rich on its slopes. [1]

Before the implementation of the "Kallikratis" plan, the village was administratively part of the municipality of Thesprotiko, now it belongs to the municipality of Ziros, based in Pillipiada. According to the 2001 census, the village has 303 permanent residents. Until 2011, there was a primary school. A cultural association with the name "Profitis Ilias", which was created in 2007 by residents of the village, is also active. The villagers are mainly engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, beekeeping and olive harvesting. At the end of the village there is a small river that the inhabitants use to irrigate their crops.
