Marathos (Μάραθος) Ilia
Marathos is a lowland settlement of Ilia in the Regional Unit of Ilia[2] at an altitude of 72 meters[3], which is located on the eastern side of Lake Kaiafas. It is 6 km. NW. from Zacharo, 28 km. SE. from Pyrgos. To the north is the "Kato Samiko - Xirochori - Smerna - Graika - Vrina" Wildlife Sanctuary[4] and next to it (SE.) is Panagia. It was officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 2001, being registered in the then Local Department of Xirochori.[5] According to the Kallikratis Plan, together with Xirochori, Panagia, Kotroni and Neochori, they constitute the local community of Smyrna, which falls under the municipal unit of Zacharo of the Municipality of Zacharo and according to the 2011 census has a population of 12 inhabitants[6].
