Μαγούλιανα Αρκαδίας

Geography and history

According to several sources, the village was founded between 1530 and 1600 by inhabitants of five settlements, Agios Athanasios (Kastro), Agios Konstantinos (Leivadi), Agios Ioannis (Kampeas), Petrovouni and Megisti or Katsipodas, fleeing from raiding Lalaioi Turks. The name probably derives from the Slavic word magila which means hill. It was renamed to Argyrokastro in 1927[1], but it was renamed back to Magouliana in 1929.[2]
