Magoula (Μαγούλα) Arkadia

Magoula is a settlement in the Peloponnese in the Regional Unit of Arkadia.[2][3]

Geographical information

Magoula is located on the southeastern edge of the Tegea plain at an altitude of 660 meters[2] and is approximately 10 km southeast of the center of Tripoli. To the west is the Stadium, to the northeast is Lithovounia and to the southeast is Rize. The parish church of the village is the church of Agios Nikolaos.[4] To the northeast is the hill of Agia Paraskevi, overlooking the plateau of Mantineia and the Tegea plain, where at the top is built a chapel of the same name on the site of an early Christian church, of which few remains survive.[5]

Historical - administrative data

In the Morea Campaign it is recorded under the name Magoula as belonging to the Province of Tripolitsa (Tripolitsa) and having a population of 32 families (total 221 people) while later in the "Archive of Ioannis Kapodistrias" as Boleta as having 29 families (total 126 people).[6]

As a settlement it is mentioned, after the completion of the Revolution of 1821, in 1845 it was annexed to the then municipality of Tegea[7] According to the Kallikratis plan and its amendment by Kleisthenis I, together with Giokareika it forms the community of Magoula[8] which belongs to the municipal unit of Tegea of the Municipality of Tripoli and according to the 2021 census it has a population of 98 inhabitants.[9]
