Magoula is a lowland settlement of the Prefecture of Achaia, it is part of the Local Community of Kato Kastritsi, and according to the "Kallikratis Program" from 1/1/2011 it belongs to the enlarged Municipality of Patras [1] [2].
Designation
The name "Magoula" seems to be related to the morphology of the soil of the area, ie from the word "Magoula" which means hill [3] or the rise of the earth [4]. According to local testimonies, the area where the settlement is located is also called "Xirokampos".
Historical data
The area where the current settlement of Magoula is located was inhabited by residents of the neighboring villages of Ano Kastritsi and Kato Kastritsi, who founded the settlement. The settlement there took place shortly before and shortly after World War II, and the entire surrounding area used to be a fertile area for the cultivation of the inhabitants of the villages of Kastritsi, a mild climate area.
Administrative development
Magoula is a relatively new settlement as it was recognized as such on 05/04/1981, when it was subordinated to the then Community of Kato Kastritsi [1] [3] [6] [7]. In the period 1997-2010, under the "Kapodistrias Plan", it belonged to the former Municipality of Rio as part of the former Municipal District of Kato Kastritsi [1] [3] [5] [6] [7] [8] [8].
