Administrative history

Lykouria was the main settlement of the Municipality of Lykouria from 1835 to 1841, while from 1841 to 1870 it was a settlement of the then Municipality of Klitoria after the Municipality of Lykouria was annexed to it. Subsequently, a part of the Municipality of Klitoria was detached from it and formed the then Municipality of Lefkada, with its seat until 1877 in Lykouria and then the settlement of Filia. In 1912, with the abolition of the Municipalities, Lykouria was designated as the seat of the homonymous Community. In 1998, with the implementation of the administrative division of the "Kapodistrias" plan, the settlement was incorporated into the Municipality of Lefkas as the seat of the homonymous Municipal District. In 2011, based on the administrative reform "Kallikratis", it was incorporated into the enlarged Municipality of Kalavryta, now constituting one of the Local Communities that comprise it.

In addition to the homonymous settlement, the small settlements of Kerasia and Spilia also belong to the Local Community of Lykouria.

Ancient Lykouria

Ancient Lykouria was a commune of Arcadian Azania. According to Pausanias, it was located 50 stadia from the sources of Ladon and formed the boundary between Kleitoros and Feneos [3]. The exact location of the ancient commune has not been located, but it is assumed that it was located in the wider area of the present village.
