Lykostomo (Λυκόστομο) Kavala
Lykostomo (until 1926 Kourtlou[1]) is a village in the Municipality of Kavala, in the Kavala regional unit, in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. According to the 2011 census, it has 41 inhabitants. It is located at an altitude of 760 meters, on the southwestern slopes of the Lekani Mountains. Near the village are dense forests of deciduous trees, extensive meadows and abandoned fields with typical flora of these altitudes, such as various species of oak, maple, beech, juniper, ash, dogwood, chestnut, cherry and walnut trees.[2]
Until the population exchange in 1923, Lykostomo had a Muslim population. The 1900 statistics state that it was inhabited by Turks and the Chalkiopoulos statistics, in 1910, state that it had 648 inhabitants, Muslims, and the statistics and the population census by the Greek army in 1911 and 1913, state that it had 800 and 766 inhabitants respectively. In the 1920 census, it had 698 inhabitants.[3] After the population exchange, 89 refugee families settled in Lykostomos.[4] In the 1928 census, it had 307 inhabitants and in the 1940 census, it had 282 inhabitants.[3] With the Kapodistrias program, it was incorporated into the municipality of Philippi, and previously belonged to the community of Limnia.[5]
