Louvro is a semi-mountainous village of Ilia in the Regional Unit of Ilia[2][3] at an altitude of 125 meters[4].

Geography - History

Louvro is located towards the border with the Regional Unit of Arkadia at a distance of 14 km. E. from Archaia Olympia (seat of the municipality) and 29 km. E. from Pyrgos. Southwest of the village is the Alpheios River while the Olympia - Tripoli National Road passes through it. To the west are the settlements of Nea Kamena and to the east is Vasilaki. An ancient shell quarry has been identified at the location "Kamberi", from which most of the building material for the monuments of Alte in ancient Olympia comes and which has been declared an archaeological site.[5] It is mentioned as a settlement from the period of Turkish rule and after the liberation in 1835 it was officially annexed to the then municipality of Pissa. In 1912, with the Government Gazette 256A - 28/08/1912, it was designated the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[6] According to the Kallikratis Plan, together with Gyros, it forms the local community of Louvros, which falls under the municipal unit of Archaia Olympia of the Municipality of Archaia Olympia and according to the 2011 census, as a community it has a population of 240 residents, while as a settlement it has 229[7].
