Lianovergi (Λιανοβέργι) Imathia
Lianovergi[1] or Leianovergi[2][3] is a town in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.
Geographical - Historical information
Lianovergi is located on the border with the Regional Unit of Thessaloniki, in the plain of Aliakmonas and to the north of the river at an altitude of 10 meters.[2] It is approximately 6 km. E. from Alexandria (seat of the municipality) and 48 km. W. from Thessaloniki while to the east/next to it is Platy and to the south is Koryfi. At its southwestern edge is the Railway Station of the Thessaloniki - Florina line and to the north is the former Athens - Thessaloniki National Road. The parish church is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, which belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Naoussa, Veroia and Kampania.[4]
It is mentioned from the Ottoman period (along with the neighboring Palaiochori) and was located southeast of the lake-marsh of Giannitsa, which was drained in 1932 - 1936, while historically it is included in the villages of the Roumlouki region.[5] It belonged to the kaza of Thessaloniki of the then Ottoman Empire. Alexander Sinve (in the book "Les Grecs de l' Empire Ottoman. Etude Statistique et Ethnographique") wrote in 1878 that 156 Greeks lived in Lianoveri of the Diocese of Kampania.[6] According to a report by Dimitrios Sarros in 1906, "Lianoveri (Lianovergi) is a Greek-speaking village in the Koulakia diocese with 175 residents with a Greek conscience. There is a primary Greek mixed school in the village with 24 students and 1 teacher".[7]
Administrative - Population data
Lianoveri is officially reported, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918, written as Lianoveri, to be annexed to the then community of Gida (present-day Alexandria). In 1926, with the Government Gazette 401A - 12/11/1926, it was renamed Lianovergi. In 1940 the name was corrected to Lianovergio (with "ei") and in 1946 with the Government Gazette 364A - 27/12/1946 it was designated the seat of the homonymous newly founded community. In 1961 the abolished settlement of Paleochori, which is to the west of it, was annexed.[8] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Kleisthenis I, it constitutes the community of Lianovergio[9] which falls under the municipal unit of Plateos of the Municipality of Alexandreia, while according to the 2011 census, 1,593 inhabitants were registered.[10]
