Lefki (Λεύκη) Xanthi

Lefki is a lowland village of Thrace in the Regional Unit of Xanthi.[2]

Geography - History

Lefki is located in the plain of Xanthi at an altitude of 35 meters[3] and at a distance of 7 km. S.-S.W. from the city center. It is built south of Eumiro, next to and east of Lambrino, southwest of Diomidia while to the north of it passes the Xanthi - Kavala National Road and to the south the Egnatia Odos. The old name of the village, during the period of Turkish rule, was Benderli Tsiflik and so it is mentioned, after the liberation of Thrace, in the Government Gazette 301A - 13/09/1926 to be annexed to the then community of Morsa (today's Eumiro). In 1928, with the Government Gazette 193A - 20/09/1928, it was renamed Lefki. According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Evmoiro, Petrochori, Lambrino, Nea Morsini and Palaia Morsini, it forms the municipal community of Evmoiro, which falls under the municipal unit of Xanthi of the Municipality of Xanthi and according to the 2011 census, has a population of 358 residents.[4]
