Lampiri (Λαμπίριο) Aitoloakarnania

Lampiri, officially Lampirion, is a mountain village in the prefecture of Aitoloakarnania [1]

Geography - History

Lambiri is located on the border of the prefectures of Aitoloakarnania and Evrytania and is 35 km away from A.-VA. from Agrinio and 17 km SE. from the Monastery of Prousos. It is built at an altitude of 1,000 meters on the slopes of Mount Panaitolikos and is one of the most mountainous villages in Etoloakarnania. The area north and west of the village and the peaks of Panaitolikos has been designated a CORINE habitat [2]. It is officially mentioned as a settlement in 1845 in the Government Gazette 32A - 08/12/1845 to be annexed to the then municipality of Amvrakia. In 1912, with the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912, it was detached from the municipality of Amvrakia and was designated the seat of the newly established community of Lampiri [3]. According to the Kallikratis program, together with Kato Lambiri, they constitute the local community of Lampiriou, which belongs to the municipal unit of Paravolas of the municipality of Agrinio and according to the 2011 census, as a community has a population of 124 inhabitants, while as a settlement 103 [4]. Its population according to the 2001 census was 117 inhabitants.
