Lalas is a village in the municipality of Ancient Olympia (Kallikratis Program) in the region of Western Greece [1]. It was also the seat of the municipality of Foloi, which operated from 1997 to 2010. [2] Its population is 554 permanent residents and the homonymous Local Community is 636 according to the 2011 census.

Historical data

In Byzantine times and during the 14th century, Lala was inhabited and inhabited by Albanians who had come from Epirus, after the desolation of the Peloponnese. Its inhabitants multiplied during the Russo-Turkish War of 1769, when entire Albanian settlements flooded the Peloponnese. The Turks called on them to punish the Greeks for the Orlofika.

The Turks and Albanians of Lalas became known for their bravery. Many times they proved useful in the fight and persecution of thieves, especially in the Northern Peloponnese. But the Greeks did not lag behind. Many of them distinguished themselves during the Greek Revolution of 1821.
