Geography - History

Krentis is located towards the western border with the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania and the slopes of the Evrytani (southern) Agrafa at an altitude of 770 meters[4], on the southwestern outskirts of the Kafki peak (altitude 1751 m). It is built east of the Agrafiotis River at a distance of 42 km. NW. from Karpenisi and just 3 km. W.-SW. from Kerasochori (seat of the municipality), of which it is considered a settlement[3]. The original location of the village, before the 1996 earthquake, was next to and west of the current one. Due to the great destruction suffered by the houses and one death, the new one was created.

Southwest is the hill "Mplo" or Laspochomata (altitude 1083 m) with a panoramic view to the southwest of the artificial lake of Kremaston and to the north of the mountains of Agrafa. In the 60s and 70s, the area served as a military base and there are abandoned buildings, machine guns and underground tunnels. Between the old and new settlement is "Pliou" with the fountain of the same name (the fountain of the bird), whose name is due, according to local tradition, to the thieves of Katsantonis because the birds drank water from its spring. At this location, in July 1806, Katsantonis gave a great victory over the Arvanites led by Hasan Belousis and forced them to flee and close themselves in the Monastery of Tatarna (see Battles of Katsantonis).

It was first mentioned as a separate settlement in 1928 when it was annexed to the then community of Kerasovou (Kerasochori).[5] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Kerasochori, Agia Triada and Skamnia, it forms the local community of Kerasochori, which belongs to the municipal unit of Viniani in the Municipality of Agrafa and, according to the 2011 census, has a population of 267 residents.[6]

The population variation of the settlement is as follows:[7]
Year 1991 2001[8] 2011[9]
Population 307 330 267
