Koryfi is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[1][2]
Geographical - historical information
Koryfi is located in the Aliakmonas plain and north of the river at an altitude of 14 meters[3]. It is approximately 8 km. SE. from Alexandreia (seat of the municipality), 29 km. S.-SE. from Giannitsa and 53 km. W. from Thessaloniki. The Piraeus-Thessaloniki railway line passes east of the village while the Egnatia Motorway passes southwest. Its residents are mainly engaged in agriculture (growing peaches, apples, pears, sugar beets, etc.) and livestock (raising cattle) while they also operate industries for processing agricultural products.[1] Historically, it is included in the villages of the Roumlouki region.[4]
Administrative - population data
It is officially stated that, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1961, the abolished settlement of Neochoropoulo, which is on the western side of Korifi, was also annexed.[5] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Kleisthenis I[6], together with Palaichora, it forms the Koryfi community, which falls under the municipal unit of Plateos of the Municipality of Alexandreia, while according to the 2011 census, 1,227 residents were registered.[7]
The population censuses after World War II are:
Census 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011
