  • Koimisi is a lowland village of the Regional Unit of Serres at an altitude of 38 meters [1].

    Geography - History

    Koimisi is located east of Lake Kerkini, north of the plain of Serres and south of Strymon. It is 4 km north of N.-NE. of Heraklion, 31.5 NW. of Serres and is the northeastern continuation of the settlement of Pontismenos. Its inhabitants are engaged in agriculture, although there has been a large migration since the 1990s, mainly in Germany. In the village there is a kindergarten, a kindergarten, a primary school and a high school. Every August, since 2014, the "WAKE UP FESTIVAL" is held in the courtyard of the High School. In 1920 it is mentioned in the Official Gazette 2A - 04/01/1920 with the name Spatovon, the seat of the homonymous community is defined. In 1920 with the Official Gazette 7A - 14/01/1927 it was renamed Koimisis [4]. According to the Kallikratis plan, it is the Local Koimisi Community that belongs to the Municipal Unit of Heraklion of the Municipality of Heraklion and according to the 2011 census it has a population of 1,414 inhabitants [5].
