Kavasila (Καβάσιλα) Imathia
Kavasila is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[1][2]
Geographical - Historical information
Kavasila is located near the border with the Regional Unit of Pella, in the Aliakmonas plain and north of the river at an altitude of 17 meters[1]. It is approximately 11 km. SW. from Alexandreia (seat of the municipality), 15 km. NE. from Veria, 29 km. S.-S.W. from Giannitsa and 64 km. W. from Thessaloniki while the Alexandreia - Kozani National Road passes through the village, where the parish church of Agios Dimitrios is located next to it[3]. Its name is due to Saint Nicholas Kavasilas who spent his childhood in the area and in his honor, celebrations are held on June 20 of each year by the local cultural association "Hamaetos".[4][5]
Administrative - Population data
It is officially reported, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 to be annexed to the then community of Episkopi. In 1956, with the Government Gazette 217A - 29/09/1956, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name and in 1997 with the Government Gazette 244A - 04/12/1997 (Kallikratis plan) as the seat of the municipality of Antigonides.[6] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, they constitute the community of Kavasila[7] which falls under the municipal unit of Antigonides of the Municipality of Alexandria, while according to the 2011 census, 632 residents were registered.[8]
