Kato Ptelea (Κάτω Πτελέα) Kastoria

Kato Ptelia or Kato Ptelea is a mountain village in the regional unit of Kastoria at an altitude of 800 meters [1].

Geography - History

Kato Ptelia is located on the eastern borders of the municipality of Nestori with the municipality of Kastoria, at a distance of 12.5 km NE. from Nestorio and 20 SW. from Kastoria. The village is the northern continuation of Ptelia and its name is due to the elms that are the characteristic trees of the area. It is officially reported in 1918, after the liberation, in the Government Gazette 259A - 29/12/1918 that a seat is defined in the homonymous community that belonged to the prefecture of Florina. In 1928 with the Government Gazette 156A - 08/08/1928 it was renamed to Ftelia and in 1949 with the Government Gazette 319A - 22/11/1949 to Ptelea [2]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Kranochori and Ptelea, they constitute the local community of Ptelea, which belongs to the municipal unit of Nestori of the municipality of Nestori and according to the 2011 census has a population of 55 inhabitants [3].
