Kateriana (Κατεριανά) Rethymno
Kateriana[1] or Katergiana[2] is a semi-mountainous village in the Municipality of Mylopotamos in the Regional Unit of Rethymno, Crete, at an altitude of 400 meters[1].
General information
Kateriana is located south and west of Geropotamos, 45 km E. from Rethymno (via Panormos - Perama) and 18 km southwest of Perama (the seat of the municipality). To the east and next to the village is Veni, while to the southwest is the historic monastery of Diskourio, which is a sub-district of the monastery of Halepa and is believed to have been built on an ancient sanctuary of the Dioscuri[3]. The parish church is the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the cemetery church of Agia Anastasia[4].
It is mentioned as a settlement in 1925 in the Government Gazette 27A - 31/01/1925 to be annexed to the then community of Garazos[2]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Veni they form the local community of Garazos, which falls under the municipal unit of Kouloukonas of the Municipality of Mylopotamos and according to the 2011 census has a population of 3 inhabitants[5].
