Kastrosykia (Καστροσυκιά) Preveza
Kastrosykia is a settlement in Epirus in the Preveza Regional Unit.[1][2]
General information - attractions
Kastrosykia is located near the coast of the Ionian Sea at an altitude of 120 meters[2] and at a distance of approximately 22 km. N.-NW. from Preveza. On the south side of the village passes the Preveza - Igoumenitsa National Road and further south in the sea is Pidima Kyras while to the north are Megadendro and Myrsini. It is a summer destination in the area mainly for the nearby beaches where there are campsites.
Holy Monastery of Agia Pelagia
A religious attraction is the Holy Monastery of Agia Pelagia, which is located on the southern edge of the village next to the national road, from the 17th century (it was renovated twice, in 1613 and 1795). The monastery's catholicon is a simple four-column cruciform church with side choirs and a built iconostasis of 1856. It was built on the ruins of a Roman building, of which there are visible remains in its enclosure. A mosaic floor from Roman times was discovered in one of its cells. The monastery has been declared a historical monument according to Government Gazette 717/τβ/19.8.1997.[3]
Administrative - population data
It is officially mentioned, after the liberation, in 1919 in Government Gazette 181Α - 14/08/1919 as being annexed to the then community of Riniassa.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Kanali, Nea Thesi, Pidima Kyras and Mazi, they form the community of Kanali[5] which falls under the Municipal Unit of Zalongo of the municipality of Preveza and according to the 2011 census had a population of 127 inhabitants.[6] The population censuses after World War II are:
