Kastro (Κάστρο) Kefalonia
Kastro is a settlement in the Ionian Islands and the Regional Unit of Kefalonia.[2][3]
Geographical - historical information
Kastro is located in the southern part of Kefalonia, at an altitude of 260[2] meters and is approximately 8 km southeast of the center of Argostoli.
The village was the capital of the island until 1757, when the Venetians moved it to the then small settlement of Argostoli due to its large natural harbor[2], resulting in its decline.

The settlement had developed next to the Fortress or Castle of Agios Georgios, with mansions, several Catholic and Orthodox churches as well as schools where famous teachers taught.
Today, many of the buildings have fallen into ruin, while some are still preserved. Of interest is the beautiful old Venetian church of Evangelistria (built in 1508) at the end of the main road, which is still in operation.[4]
Administrative information

It is officially listed as a separate settlement in 1928, annexed to the community of Peratatas.[5] According to the Kallikrates plan and its amendment by Kleisthenes I, together with Peratatas and the Monastery of Agios Andreas, it forms the community of Peratatas[6], which falls under the Municipal Unit of Livathos of the Municipality of Argostoli, while according to the 2021 census, 41 residents were registered[7], while in 2011 it had 44[8].
