It is approximately 2 km. from Kato Achaia, the seat of the Municipality of Western Achaia, while it is located at an altitude of approximately 47-49 meters.
Name

The name of the settlement is toponymic and comes from the homonymous name of the plain of Kato Achaia[7]. Oral testimonies suggest that the current name of the settlement comes from the name of a flower that grew in the area[8]. The older name "Agiovlasitika", which was borne by the settlement of Kapeli, is toponymic and indicates the origin of the first inhabitants of the settlement from the area of Vlasia Kalavryta[9][10]. The name "Agiovlasitika" initially referred to all the settlements of the Community of Agiovlasitika and not to any specific settlement[8][9].
Administrative development

The settlement of Kapeli was recognized on 17/06/1897 (Government Gazette 59B) under the name Agiovlasitika, when it was subordinated to the then Municipality of Dymi[4]. With the Government Gazette 256A of 28/08/1912, and the establishment of the institution of Communities, it was annexed to the then Community of Upper Achaia[4][11]. With the Government Gazette 79A of 07/05/1927 it became the seat of the then newly established Community of Agiovlasitika[10][12][13]. With the Government Gazette 186A of 15/07/1981 it was renamed Kapeli[4][10][13][14][15]. During the period 1997-2010, based on the "Kapodistrias Plan", it belonged to the former Municipality of Dymi as the seat of the former Municipal District of Agiovlasitika[4][10][12][13][16].
