Kapediana (Καπεδιανά ) Rethymno

Kapediana is a village in the municipality of Rethymno, in the regional unit of Rethymno, Crete. According to the 2011 census, they have 28 inhabitants. They are 11 km from Rethymnon, and are built at an altitude of 380 m. [1] It has been declared a traditional settlement.

The village is not mentioned in the Venetian census. The oldest mention in the village is in the Cretan work of Michael Chourmouzis in 1842. In the census of 1881 it is mentioned in the municipality of Chromonastirio and had 2 Christians and 17 Turkish inhabitants. In the 1900 census it had 120 inhabitants. The 1920 census lists it as the seat of a homonymous rural municipality. [1] In 1925, the Cappadocia first belonged to the community of Roussospiti, then to the community of Chromonastirio for 7 years, and in 1935 they were re-annexed to the community of Roussospiti. With the Kapodistrian administrative division, the village was annexed to the Municipality of Rethymno. [2]

The village has been declared a traditional settlement. Many of his homes are in ruins. A fountain with a Turkish inscription survives at the entrance of the village. [3] Around the village is the two-aisled church of the Transfiguration of the Savior and Agios Fanourios. The aisle of the Transfiguration is the oldest, built in the early 20th century on the site of an older temple. The aisle of Agios Fanourios was built in 1998. [4]
