Kamatriades (Καματριάδες) Evoia
Kamatriades (official name Ai Kamatriades) is a semi-mountainous village in northern Evoia[1], built at the northern foothills of Mount Telethri. It has an altitude of 362 meters[2] and is located 9 kilometers south-southeast of Istiaia. It has 90 permanent residents (2011 census).[3] The village's patron saint is Saint Panteleimon.[4]

Name
It is historically certain that the village was built by residents of the village of Galatsades, which is located 2 kilometers away and at a higher altitude. Tradition says that the farmers of Galatsades, who had their fields in the area that is today the village of Kamatriades, did not want to return their oxen (oxen for plowing the fields) to the village after the end of their work. This helped them with the next day's work, and at the same time their animals were resting. So at first only the animals stayed, then their shepherds (voukolis) and then the cultivators. From the makeshift camp that existed at the beginning, a permanent settlement was created, Kamaterades (the place that was for the oxen). The word Kamaterades was modified and became Kamatriades.
History
Petros Dikaios in 1838 bought Kamatriades from the Turks along with the neighboring villages of Galatsades and Kastaniotissa. In 1843 Kamatriades, along with Galatsades, were sold to Henry Daniel and Clara Eckersall. In 1864 and 1866 the village was distributed to its residents.
It is officially mentioned as a separate settlement, after the revolution of 1821 and the incorporation of Evoia, in 1879 with the Government Gazette 50A - 25/07/1879 to be annexed to the then Municipality of Telethri.[5]
Economy
The residents are mainly engaged in agriculture, livestock farming and logging. In recent years, many are also involved in tourism, since the village is a destination for mountain lovers (hiking, horse riding, mountaineering).[6]
