Kamaritsa (Καμαρίτσα) Evoia

Kamaritsa is a village of Dirfion - Messapia of the Regional Unit of Evoia. According to the 2011 census it has 415 inhabitants. It is built at an altitude of 320 m. [1] in a wooded area. It is 27 km from Chalkida and 14 km from Psachna. To the east of the settlement passes Vrasorema. [2]

Historical data

It is not known where the village got its name from. One view is that it took from the small bridges or arches that existed in the area. According to another view, it has to do with the location of the settlement, which offers panoramic views. [2]

Kamaritsa is mentioned for the first time in 1879, as belonging to the municipality of Messapia. With the abolition of the municipalities in 1912, the seat of the homonymous community was defined. With the Kapodistrias program, it was annexed to the municipality of Messapia and with the Kallikratis program to the municipality of Dirfion - Messapia. [3]

Points of interest

The village's cathedral is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. [4]

About two kilometers south of the village, on a forested slope, are the ruins of a medieval tower. It has a square floor plan, with dimensions of 9 by 9 meters, and survives at a height of up to 6 meters on the east side, while the rest reach a lower height. It is not known exactly when the tower was built. It was probably built by the Venetians around 1500. It is in direct visual contact with the tower in Politika and the Trinity. [5]

About four kilometers south of the village is the monastery of Agioi Anargyroi. Today's church was built in 1982 on the site of an older Byzantine church. According to tradition, a shepherd or a farmer found a small old image of the Saints Anargyros there. [2]
