Kalos Agros (Καλός Αγρός) Drama

Kalos Agros (formerly known as Osmanitsa[2]) is a settlement in Drama regional unit, located 8 km southwest of the homonymous capital , at an altitude of 70 meters. Administratively, it falls under the municipality of Drama and is a rural area.

History

Kalos Agros (until 1927 known as Osmanitsa[2]) came to Greece during the Balkan Wars, while later Greek refugees from the regions of Thrace and Asia Minor[3] settled there. During the Occupation, it spent - along with the rest of Eastern Macedonia and most of Thrace - under Bulgarian control. In late September 1941, armed men from the village participated in the Drama uprising, setting fire to the local Bulgarian administration building and expelling a military detachment occupying a road bridge. This was followed by harsh reprisals from the Bulgarian side, which included the destruction of several houses in the settlement and the execution of 25 or 26 young men, 22 of whom were residents of Kalo Agros[4].

During the last months of the Occupation, several residents of the villages of Elatia, which had earlier been set on fire by the Bulgarian army in retaliation for the Battle of Papadon Bridge, found refuge in Kalo Agros.[5]

Administratively, after its incorporation into the Greek state, Kalos Agros was initially subordinated to the province of Drama, while since 1997 it has belonged to the municipality of the same name[6].
