Iliofoto (Ηλιόφωτον) Kilkis
Iliofoto is a semi-mountainous village of Kilkis in Central Macedonia at an altitude of 180 meters[1].
Geographical - historical information
Iliofoto is located south of Lake Doirani, 21.5 km. NW. of the city of Kilkis and 67 km. NW. of Thessaloniki[2], between the villages of Cherso (SE), Kalindria (E) and Megali Sterna (S). The old name of the village, from the time of the Turkish occupation, was Rapes and is mentioned in 1919 in the Government Gazette 48A-05/03/1919 as being annexed to the then community of Kilindir which belonged to the prefecture of Thessaloniki. It was renamed Iliofoto in 1927 and in 1934 it was detached to the then newly established prefecture of Kilkis[3]. According to the Kallikratis program, together with Chersos, Kalindria and Eleftherochori, it forms the local community of Chersos, which belongs to the municipal unit of Chersos of the municipality of Kilkis and according to the 2011 census has a population of 24 permanent residents[4].
