Goritsa (Γορίτσα) Ioannina
Goritsa is a mountainous village in Epirus in the Regional Unit of Ioannina[1].
Geographical information
Goritsa is located south of Lake Pamvotida and 10 kilometers south of the city of Ioannina at an altitude of 580 meters[2]. North of the village is Koutsolio and the Egnatia Odos passes through it, while to the southeast is Kyparissia. Its name must come from the Slavic word "gora" which means mountain, hill, elevation and the Slavic diminutive ending -itsa.[3]
It is officially mentioned after the liberation of Epirus in 1919 in the Government Gazette 184A - 19/08/1919 as being annexed to the then community of Koutsolio.[4] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Koutselio, they form the local community of Koutselio in the municipal unit of Pamvotida, which falls under the municipality of Ioannina and according to the 2011 census has a population of 289 residents.[5]
