Attractions in the area
At the location of Kastro, south of the settlement of Kastri Gorgomilo, there is an archaeological site of particular historical value. It is the Ancient City of Orraon, also known as Kastropolis, where ruins of a castle, various buildings, a reservoir, a cemetery and roads are preserved and its foundation dates back to the time of Kassopi.
In Ano Gorgomilo, between the settlements of Geroplatanos (Koutikatos) and Gerodimata, there is a small Church dedicated to the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. Its name is Panagia Agiospiliotissa, because it was built very close to the Agiospilia of Moliana (where the icon of the Virgin Mary was found around the middle of the 10th century AD, from which the Cave was named Agiospilia).
This chapel, along with those of the Holy Apostles in Goura, the Holy Archangels in Vathi and the Holy Demetrius in Markates, have been deemed worthy of preservation by the
Archaeological Service.
