Galanovrysi (Γαλανόβρυση ) Larissa
Galanovrysi (until 1927 Aradosivia Orta[1]) is a village in the municipality of Elassona, Larissa prefecture. According to the 2011 census, it has 428 inhabitants. The village is built at an altitude of 280 meters.[2] It is 4 kilometers from Elassona and is located right next to the village of Stefanovouno.[3]
Historical information
Galanovrysi took its name from a stone fountain called "Galani", and was formerly called Aradosivia Orta. Before joining the Greek state, the village was inhabited by a mixed population of Christians and Muslims. After the population exchange in 1923, refugees from Pontus settled in the village. Today, the village's economy is based on agriculture and livestock farming. A tobacco factory was built near the village, with the aim of processing the tobacco grown in the area.[3] There is a Special School in the village.[4]
Galanovrysi was annexed to the community of Stefanovouno in 1919, but was designated the seat of a community of the same name in 1935. The community was maintained until 1997, when it was annexed to the municipality of Elassona under the Kapodistrias program, where it remained under the Kallikratis program.[5]
