Floriada (Φλωριάδα) Aitoloakarnania

Floriada is a mountain village in Aitoloakarnania at an altitude of 540 meters.

Geography - Sights

Floriada is located on the northern border with the Regional Unit of Arta, at a distance of 46.5 km north of Amfilochia and 25 km SE. from Arta. It is built on the northern slopes of Makrynoros and next to the village passes the provincial road Kompoti - Patiopoulo. The most important religious attraction in the area is in the south of the village between the Olive Grove, the Holy Monastery of Drymonari which is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary [2] and since 1986 has been characterized as a historical monument. The monastery's katholikon is "a narrow basilica built at different times (dating back to 1639), with a wood-carved iconostasis, a roof with a diamond-shaped façade, and is recorded with 18th-century frescoes" [3]. A historic monument is the "Koulia Floriada", a two-storey tower of cylindrical cross-section, which is "a characteristic building of fortress technique, one of the few that survives today, in good condition in Greece" [4]
Name - Administrative

The old name of the village is Liaskovo and so it is officially mentioned in 1971 to be recorded in the then community of Floriada. In 1974, with the Government Gazette 229A - 24/08/1974, the seat of the community of Floriada was defined and in 1978 with the Government Gazette 18A - 16/02/1978 it was renamed Floriada [5]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Palea Floriada, Eleofytho, Katharovouni, Kastriotissa, Chrysopigi, Paleokastro and Chrysoorrachi constitute the Local Community of Floriada which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Menidi as of 2011 and according to the Municipality of Amfilo community has a population of 699 inhabitants, while as a settlement 127 [6].
