Episkopiko (Επισκοπικό) Ioannina
Episkopiko, before 1928: Μπάρτζι - Bartzi) is a village in the prefecture of Ioannina at an altitude of 560 meters.[1] It is located at the southern end of the Ioannina basin and 14 kilometers from the city of Ioannina.[2] It is a municipal district of the Municipality of Dodoni. In the oldest administrative division, it belonged to the municipality of Agios Dimitrios.
Historical information
The village, as Bartzi, is mentioned by the English traveler William Martin Leake, who, traveling from Arta to Ioannina in 1805 and after passing through the inns of Pente Pigadion and Agios Dimitrios, says: “.....Bartzi which is located on the left side of the hills”. In early October 1912, it was burned by Turk-Albanians, like other villages in the area.[3]
Until 1930 it operated as a settlement of the community of Manoliasa. On 14-2-1930 it was detached from Manoliasa and was autonomous as a community with the seat of Episkopi, to which the settlement of Ampelia was also attached, which in the meantime was detached from Kosmira. (Government Gazette No. 47 -142-1930) On 20-9-1947 the settlement of Ampelia was liberated, while Episkopi continued to operate alone as a community. (Government Gazette No. 203 A 20-9-1947).
Since 1999 it wasa municipal district of the Municipality of Agios Dimitrios, within the framework of the “I. Kapodistrias” program (Law 2539/1997, Government Gazette 244A/4-12-97)
Since 1-1-2011 within the framework of the “Kallikratis” program (Law 3852/2010) (Government Gazette A' 87/07-06-2010) it belongs to the Municipality of Dodoni with headquarters in Agia Kyriaki.
