Eleftherochori (Ελευθεροχώρι) Magnisia
Eleftherochori or Kokkinovrachos is a settlement in Thessaly in the Regional Unit of Magnisia.[1]
General information
Eleftherochori is located on the western border with the Regional Unit of Larissa, at an altitude of 370 meters.[1] It is approximately 18 km. SW. from Velestino (seat of the municipality) and 43 km. W.-SW. from Volos. North of the village is Argithea Larissa, west is Agios Charalambos Larissa while to the southwest passes the Karditsa - Volos National Road. The village is known for the equestrian meetings organized in its area under the auspices of the Riga Feraios municipality.[2]
Administrative - population data
It is officially mentioned, after the Union of Thessaly, in 1883 with its old name from the Turkish rule as Ardouan in the Government Gazette 126A - 02/04/1883 to be annexed to the then municipality of Skotousa. In 1928 with the Government Gazette 156A - 08/08/1928 it was renamed to Kokkinovrachos and in 1984 with the Government Gazette 36A - 26/03/1984 to Eleftherochorio.[3] According to the Kallikrates program and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, together with Agios Dimitrios, Kokkina, Periblepto and Kokkaleika, they constitute the community of Periblepto[4], which falls under the Municipal Unit of Feres of the Municipality of Rigas Feraios and according to the 2011 census, 101 inhabitants were registered.[5]
