Dounaiika (Δουναίικα) Aitoloakarnania
Dounaiika is a mountainous settlement in the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania, part of the Local Community of Kaloudi, and according to the "Kallikratis Program" since 1/1/2011 belongs to the enlarged Municipality of Thermos[2][3].
Location
The village is located close to Lake Trichonida, in an area southeast of it, being built at an altitude of approximately 345 meters, and close to it are, beyond Thermos which is the administrative center of the area, the villages of Gefyra Bania, Flesourias, Kaloudi, Analipsi, Marathoula, Petrochori, Kamemina Ampelia, Paliouria, Kato Makrinou, Marathias, Pamfio, Sitaralona, Metaxas, Agii Apostoli and Ano Makrinou, while the residential locations of Despotis and Kourmeki[4] are also located nearby. It is 40 km from Agrinio via the route south of Lake Trichonida or 51 km via the route north of Lake Trichonida, 25 km from Nafpaktos, while the Holy Monastery of Prousos is 61.5 km away by road.
Administrative development
It is one of the villages located in the historical region of Apokorou, at its southernmost limits. It was recognized as a settlement on 16/10/1940, when it was subordinated to the then Community of Kaloudi[2][5][6]. During the period 1997-2010, based on the "Kapodistrian Plan", it was part of the former Municipal District of Kaloudi of the "Kapodistrian" Municipality of Thermos[2][3][5][6].
