Dipotamos (Διπόταμος) Kavala
Dipotamos or Dipotamo (until 1926 Tsailik[1]) is a mountainous village in the Municipality of Nestos, Kavala regional unit, in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. According to the 2021 census, it had 40 residents, down from 45 in 2011. It is located at an altitude of 680 meters, built amphitheatrically on the western slopes of Christos peak in the Lekani mountains, at the northeastern edge of the prefecture of Kavala. It is located 45 kilometers northeast of Kavala.[2] The village is known for its springs and is the only one in the area where there are watermills.[3]
At the beginning of the 20th century, it was one of the largest villages in the area. Dipotamos had approximately 1,100 inhabitants, all Muslims, while after the population exchange, it had a purely refugee population, after the settlement of 95 families.[4] According to the 1928 census, it had 391 inhabitants, while its population increased to 659 inhabitants in the 1940 census.[5] Dipotamos was designated the seat of the Dipotamos community in 1934 and with the Kapodistrias program it was incorporated into the municipality of Oerino.[6]
A Pontic festival is organized in the village every August.[3]
